VetPath NZ sprouted as an idea in 2015 when John Elstob thought that there should be a New Zealand owned veterinary diagnostic laboratory which would have New Zealand veterinary and farming interests as its core objective.

The bonus of a small company would be that it could respond rapidly to client needs, allowing innovative ideas to be instigated within days to weeks rather than the months that it might take a larger company to react.

So VetPath NZ which began as an idea, developed under the guidance of Rae Pearson and a small group of others to a fully functioning veterinary diagnostic pathology laboratory which opened for business in August 2016.

With the sale of the SVS Supplies business to EBOS in March 2025 we had to relinquish the SVS brand. As of September 1 2025 we are VetPath NZ. Our core values and commitment to the wider interests above remain unchanged. We look forward to working with all our clients and being involved in exciting projects into the future under our new name.
